In his panic, Putin is treading along the same path as Hitler, and leading us into WW3

As the dust begins to settle on the fallout of the Putin-Trump 'love fest' in Alaska, the UK and the EU countries have been re-affirming their support for Ukraine and, in particular, re-affirming their intention of UK and EU boots on the ground in Ukraine should a 'ceasefire' in Putin's war with Ukraine ever be declared.

However, from Putin's mouthpiece, Sergei Lavrov (left)his dyed-in-the-wool Soviet foreign minister,  comes the message that,

"Any serious discussion of security [for Ukraine] without the Russian federation is utopian, it's a road to nowhere" (cf: video below: Sky News: 28 August 2025) (my emphasis)

  Sky News: 28 August 2025

Zelensky responded  to Lavrov's remark by explaining that (cf: video above),

"They [Putin and his Kremlin cohorts] are for Ukraine's security, for our sovereignty, for our territorial integrity.

Because the aggressor is Russia.

When Russia raises the issues of security guarantees, I honestly don't know who they think threatens them. They attack us. They are on our soil.

I don't quite understand what guarantees the aggressor needs." (ibid  Sky News) (my emphasis)

To deflect the eyes of the world from Trump caving in to Putin's demands and threats regarding the use of ANY UK or EU peacekeepers setting foot on Ukraine's soil, Putin simply brandishes in Trump's face his voluminous dossier on the 'kompromat' material he has amassed against Trump since his pre-2016 visits to Moscow.

And we now have Trump "threatening" the UK and EU with,

"U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to "impose substantial additional Tariffs" and stop selling tech and chips to countries with digital rules he deems discriminatory to American companies.
…
The European Commission is in charge of implementing the regulation on very large platforms, with national regulators taking responsibility for their respective countries.

Concessions from the EU on the DSA, which the White House was reportedly
pushing for, did not materialize in the EU-U.S. trade deal." ( Eliza Gkritsi and Jacob Wendler (right): Politico: 26 August 225) (my emphasis)

Shielding behind the rather flimsy excuse about America-style "freedom of speech", this "threat" of yet more 'tariffs' by Trump against the UK and the EU, who are simply protecting their citizens from the "flood of disinformation, misinformation", and the collecting of consumer data" carried out by Putin's internet 'troll' factories, and the likes of  Google, Apple, Meta, and X, to name but a few, also signifies the panic of Putin as Ukraine's "Flamingo missile" begins to roll off the assembly lines in Ukraine.

Trump, withholding US missiles from Ukraine which can attack Russian military infrastructure deep within Putin's Russia, no longer serves as a gift to Putin from Trump.

Rather, as Johanna Urbancik (left) points out,

"As Russia continues to unleash a major wave of airstrikes across Ukraine, Kyiv revealed a domestically made long-range cruise missile that could prove a game-changer in the war.

The FP-5 “Flamingo” missile is capable of travelling 3,000km and delivering a payload of 1,150kg, according to its maker, the Ukrainian defence start-up Fire Point.

The firm said it is producing roughly one Flamingo per day, and hoped to build capacity to make seven per day by October [2025]. That would equate to more than 200 missiles each month, or some 2,500 a year.
…
Speaking at a press conference the following day, Zelenskyy said that Ukraine could hit targets deep inside Russia without the need for coordination with Washington.
…
[Gustav] Gressel (right) — the military expert — said that although the Taurus is more difficult to detect on radar and more manoeuvrable than the Flamingo, the latter “has a far greater range and warhead, so it has a far greater effect on the target”. (Euro News: 26 August 2025) (my emphasis)

The Independent: 26 August 2025: YouTube

Underscoring Putin's panic, as  Anthony Blair  (left) reports,

"Baby-faced Russian children as young as 8 have been taught how to throw hand grenades and carry rifles at a bizarre summer camp designed to train up the next generation of Vladimir Putin’s military.

The twisted exercises, supervised by soldiers who have fought in Russia’s war in Ukraine, saw young children given real rifles or convincing replicas at a camp in the Rostov region, close to the Ukrainian border.

We threw hand grenades and fired dummy shots,” 8-year-old participant Ivan Glushchenko said excitedly, when asked what his favorite part had been during the camp, which is open to both boys and girls."
(The New York Post on  MSN: 28 August 2025) (my emphasis)

The New York Post on  MSN: 28 August 2025

Let us remind ourselves that,

"Hitler Youth (Hitlerjugend) was established as an organization in Nazi Germany that physically trained youth and indoctrinated them with Nazi ideology to the point of fanaticism. " (Wikipedia)

In his panic, Putin is treading along the same path as Hitler.

EMERGENCY! UPDATE: 30 August 2025: GMT 09:06

As the UK, EU, the US, and the world, politically quibble over 'ceasefires' in Putin's war with Ukraine,  Daniel McLaughlin reports that,

“Putin is mocking any kind of peace efforts. The only thing he understands is pressure,” said EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas (right) in Copenhagen, a day after a Russian air strike on Kyiv EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas killed at least 25 civilians, injured dozens more and damaged the offices of the European Union delegation and the British Council cultural organisation." (The Irish Times: 29 August 2025) (my emphasis)

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas seems to be the only EU politician taking heed of Zelensky when he says,

"We've been hearing from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, he says "Russia is once again showing that it doesn't give a damn about words".

He adds that Ukraine is now "counting on real action. It is clear that Moscow has used the time allocated for the preparation of the meeting at the leadership level to prepare new massive strikes."
(BBC News: 30 August 2025) (my emphasis)

OneIndia News: 29 August 2025: YouTube

The many 'armchair' generals and internet political pundits opining about what weaponry or economic strategy is needed by Ukraine to defeat Putin simply will not stop  Putin from manically killing Ukraine's civilians day after day with his frantic missile and drone onslaught against them.

Like the appeasement of Hitler when he invaded, and subsequently annexed, a large swathe of Czechoslovakia in 1938, and then set off WW2; the world is blindly treading the same path as in 1938 by allowing Putin to lead the world by the nose into WW3.

Already a doppelganger of the WW2 Japan-Italy-German axis is being set in motion with the triumvirate of Putin, Xi Jinping, and Kim Jong Un, who will be joining hands at the big military parade next Wednesday to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two in Beijing.

As Sky News reports,

"Kim Jong Un will join Xi Jinping and Vladimir Putin at a major military parade in Beijing next week, North Korean and Chinese state media have announced"
(Sky News: 28 August 2025) (my emphasis)

How, now, is the rest of the world going to react????

UPDATE: 31 August 2025: GMT: 08:35

Laura Bicker and Stephen McDonell (right) have just reported that,

"Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are among the twenty world leaders attending a regional security summit in China.

This year's gathering is the largest since the organisation was founded.
…
The meeting comes days before the massive military parade that will mark 80 years since the end of World War II.
(BBC News: 31 August 2025) (my emphasis)

The stage is being set for a confrontation between the UK, EU, Australia, Canada, and those nations friendly towards the west, and the dictators of Russia, China, India, North Korea, Pakistan,  Belarus, and Iran.

Expect Putin to be given at this 'regional security summit' the 'quiet political nod'  by his 'bosom buddies', Russia, China, India, North Korea, Pakistan,  Belarus, and Iran, for his continuous and 'manic' bombing of Ukraine's civilians.

Putin's WW3 threat is a nervous bluff to stave off his own imminent demise.

In my blog entry of 8 August 2025, I wrote that,

"And all thanks to Trump, the 'myopic' and 'failed' so-called 'deal maker (Michael Hiltzik: Los Angeles Times on Yahoo Finance: 18 May, 2022) sitting in the White House and being blackmailed by Putin, fondling his 'voluminous KGB folder of the 'kompromat' he collected about Trump during his former visits to Moscow. (cf "The Steele Dossier") (blog entry: 8 August 2025)

And now, nearly nine years since Trump first entered the White House in 2016, we had,

"... former FBI director Robert Mueller, who led a special counsel investigation until March 2019. Mueller concluded that Russian interference was "sweeping and systematic" and "violated U.S. criminal law", and he indicted twenty-six Russian citizens and three Russian organizations" (Wikipedia),

we now have, in the fallout of the Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska, Professor Michael Clarke (right) saying that,

"...  a number of retired intelligence officers believe Putin has compromising material on Trump "far beyond hookers in Moscow hotel rooms".

"About something longer-lasting and deeper and more financial - I don't know if that's true or not."

Others say Trump was "very impressed" by Putin's nuclear weapon threats and "frightened" by his cunning.

"It gave Trump a clear sense that if you push me too hard, I will use nuclear weapons and Trump has never been ever to get over that," says Clarke."
(Sky News: 21 August 2025) (my emphasis)

Sky News: 21 August 2025

We now have John Varga reporting that,

"Donald Trump has made a veiled threat to Vladimir Putin, after the Kremlin threw his peace initiative into disarray with a new set of hardline demands. The US President has spearheaded diplomatic efforts to bring the war in Ukraine to an end, risking much political capital along the way."
(Daily Express on MSN: 22 August 2025) (my emphasis)

Sky News: 22 August 2025

Furthermore,

"The US President castigated his predecessor Joe Biden for holding back Ukraine and preventing its forces from taking the war directly to Russia, hinting things could be about to change."
…
His post coincided with news that Ukraine has completed successful tests to its huge new missile the Flamingo and plans to ramp up production of the deadly weapon."
(ibid John Varga)

This ''... hinting things could be about to change" by Trump seems to be yet another "empty diplomatic phrase" that he is so fond of bandying about, as was his 'sanctions threats' against Putin's Russia, and his 'secondary sanctions threats against India and China, none of which have ever materialized.

And then then un-thinkable happens.

As reported by Samya Kullab (left) and Illia Novikov,

"Russia launched a rare drone and missile attack on western Ukraine overnight, officials said Thursday, striking targets including an American-owned electronics plant and injecting further uncertainty into the U.S.-led efforts to end the 3-year-old war.
…
The Russians knew exactly where they lobbed the missiles. We believe this was a deliberate attack against American property and investments in Ukraine,” Zelenskyy wrote, adding: “Telling attack, right as the world awaits a clear answer from Russia on negotiations to end the war.”
…
The White House didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment on whether Trump is considering changes to the types of weapons the U.S. will provide to Kyiv."
(AP: 22 August 2025) (my emphasis)

Sky News: 22 August 2025: YouTube

Reported by OneIndia,

"Russian President Vladimir Putin's recent visit to the closed city of Sarov, home to the Russian Federal Nuclear Center (VNIIEF), raised alarms as it signaled a possible escalation in nuclear preparations.
…
The visit followed a controversial post by U.S. President Donald Trump, who stated that Ukraine would have "no chance of winning" unless allowed to strike inside Russia, a comment that sparked tensions"
(OneIndia: 23 August 2025) (my emphasis)

 OneIndia: 23 August 2025

 Bear in mind that,

"Ukraine is set to mass produce a new deadly missile after concluding successful tests, potentially turning the tables on Vladimir Putin. The Russian leader has shown little compunction in bombing Ukrainian cities and towns to smithereens using a lethal mix of drones and missiles."
(John Varga: Daily Express on MSN: 22 August 2025)(my emphasis),

and that Putin has scared Trump that he WILL use nuclear weapons.

We should prepare ourselves for yet another 'walking back' of Trump's assertion that he is "considering changes to the types of weapons the U.S. will provide to Kyiv."

Furthermore, Putin's grandstanding as a 'nuclear power' is a signal to Zelensky as much as it is to Trump.

This 'nuclear bravado' of Putin and his Kremlin cohorts is a last gasp as :-

  • his economy is now galloping towards a near full recession as more sanctions from the UK and the EU are piled upon him,
  • the UK and the coalition of the willing in the EU are fast preparing for 'their' boots on the ground in Ukraine to monitor a ceasefire in Putin's war with Ukraine,
  • and  a new and deadly Ukraine missile, the "Flamingo", now points at Putin's military-industrial complex and the infrastructure of Russia.

That Trump will buckle under Putin's 'nuclear' threat is something of a forgone conclusion.

It is especially the 'nuclear arsenals' of the UK and France that Putin simply cannot ignore.

The UK and the countries of the willing in the EU, especially France, Germany, and Poland, should now call Putin's bluff, and they should simply ignore a trembling Trump in the White House.

Putin's WW3 threat is a nervous bluff to stave off his own imminent demise.

UPDATE: 25 August 2025: GMT07:07

Bipasha Dey and Lidia Kelly (left) have 2 days ago reported that,

"The Pentagon has been quietly blocking Ukraine from using U.S.-made long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) to strike targets inside Russia, limiting Kyiv's ability to employ these weapons in its defense against Moscow's invasion, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday, citing U.S. officials."
(Reuters: 23 August 2025) (my emphasis)

What is disconcerting is that,

"The U.S. has quietly implemented a review process giving Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth (right) authority to bar Ukrainian long-range strikes inside Russia with American missiles, effectively blocking strikes for months, the Wall Street Journal reported on Aug. 23." (Volodymyr Ivanyshyn:Kyiv Independent on Yahoo News: 23 August 2025) (my emphasis)

Let us remind ourselves  that,

"In 2015 or 2016 Hegseth had been promoted to the rank of major, and was assigned to the Army Individual Ready Reserve". (Wikipedia) (cf: Links in Wikipedia)

More significantly,

  • Hegseth co-hosted Fox News Channel's All-American New Year (Wikipedia(cf: Links in Wikipedia)
  • In November 2024, President-elect Donald Trump announced that he planned to nominate Hegseth to serve as the next Secretary of Defense. (Wikipedia(cf: Links in Wikipedia)
  • He appeared before the Senate Armed Services Committee on January 14, 2025.[23] During the hearing, Hegseth denied allegations of sexual assault, marital infidelity, and public drunkenness. (Wikipedia(cf: Links in Wikipedia)

As Sky News also reported in January of this year (2025),

"Donald Trump's choice for US defence secretary has been accused of lacking the competence for the job, during a much-disrupted Senate confirmation hearing.

Senators are determining whether Pete Hegseth, a former combat veteran and TV news show host, is fit to lead the US military as Mr Trump's choice for defence secretary."
(Sky News:14 January 2025) (my emphasis)

We now have an incompetent Hegseth  having the authority to bar Ukraine from using US long-range missiles to strike at Putin's military industrial complex inside Russia, which is building the missiles and bombs Putin is continuously raining onto Ukraine's civilians.

And then we have Trump's puppet, vice-president JD Vance, exclaiming that,

"I think the Russians have made significant concessions to President Trump for the first time in 3 1/2 years of this conflict. They've actually been willing to be flexible on some of their core demands. They've talked about what would be necessary to end the war," he said. "Of course, they haven't been completely there yet, or the war would be over. But we're engaging in this diplomatic process in good faith." (Hannah Demissie (right): ABC News on Yahoo News: 24 August 2025) (my emphasis)

Hegseth and JD Vance simply prove, as I wrote earlier, that,

"We should prepare ourselves for yet another 'walking back' of Trump's assertion that he is "considering changes to the types of weapons the U.S. will provide to Kyiv."

Putin is preparing to start another war in Europe.

If one were to sum up the extent to which Putin played Trump at their meeting in Alaska yesterday (15 Aug 2025) one need to look no further than Laura Gozzi (left), who wrote that,

"The fact that the Alaska summit happened at all was a victory for Putin. But this welcome would have surpassed the Kremlin's wildest dreams. In a short six months Putin went from being a pariah in the eyes of the West to being welcomed on US soil like a partner and friend."
(BBC News: 16 August 2025) (my emphasis)

 CNN: 16 August 2025: YouTube

Laura Gozzi goes on to report that,

"Yet it was only minutes after landing in Alaska that one journalist shouted in his direction: "Will you stop killing civilians?" If the question bothered him, he [Putin] didn't show it, appearing instead to shrug and diverting his gaze." (BBC News: 16 August 2025) (my emphasis)

After Trump and Putin's 12 minute press conference after the meeting,  Nikki Schwab (right) reported that,

"What was clear was that there was no immediate ceasefire or peace deal to end the Ukraine war out of Friday's Anchorage, Alaska talks at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson." (Daily Mail: 16 August 2025) (my emphasis)

Furthermore,

"Putin's comments were mostly backward-looking, a glaring indication that the U.S. and Russia remained apart on the crucial issues that could lead to a ceasefire in Ukraine.

The Russian leader didn't back down on his claims that the Ukrainian invasion was justified."
(ibid Nikki Schwab)

WFAA: 15 August 2025: YouTube

In other words, Putin did not back down from his demented mindset about his Novorossiya dreams, nor about re-creating the old USSR.

Underscoring these demented dreams and aims of Putin, we had Lavrov (left), that dyed-in-the-wool Soviet foreign minister,

"In what's seen as a not-so-subtle act of trolling, the Russian Foreign Minister was seen wearing a sweatshirt emblazoned with “CCCP”, the Russian initials for the USSR.

Seventy-five-year-old Lavrov's attire is being seen as a nod to Kremalin's imperial ambitions, forwarding Putin's long-running narrative: Russians and Ukrainians are “one people” -- a claim that denies Ukraine's legitimacy and territorial integrity while promoting a broader notion of unity with Russia." (Sanstuti Nath : NDTV World: 16 August 2025) (my emphasis)

Thus, as James Matthews (right) of Sky News reports,

"Putin's statement about the fundamental causes - to make this settlement lasting and long term, we need to eliminate the primary cause to consider all legitimate concerns of Russia. That's been Russia's starting point and it's been the sticking point throughout this whole process."
(Sky News on MSN: 15 August 2025) (my emphasis)

He further reports that,

"For Putin to stand on that stage alongside Trump and have the confidence to articulate that tells me that that resonates with Trump, and Putin is welded to that as an ongoing position - a position which is unacceptable to Ukraine." (ibid James Matthews)

In other words, "Putin played Trump!" on the world stage.

 MSNBC: 16 August 2025: YouTube

And to intimidate European leaders, we learn from India Today that,

"Russia is preparing to test its new nuclear-capable, nuclear-powered cruise missile and if successful, plans to use the results to bolster its negotiating position with the West, Ukrainian military intelligence said on Friday." (India Today: 16 August 2025) (my emphasis)

Furthermore,

"The White House did not comment directly on whether a test was being prepared, saying in response to a question about it that Trump wanted peace in Ukraine" (ibid India Today)

As I wrote in my blog entry of 11 August 2025

"Whither now the UK and the EU?

takes on an urgency for the UK and the EU, whose decisions and actions regarding Putin's war with Ukraine will either lead to a JUST PEACE for Ukraine on Friday, or precipitate the start of a possible war between Putin, the UK, and NATO members of the EU." (blog entry : 11 August 2025)

In light of Putin preparing to test his new nuclear-capable, nuclear-powered cruise missile, and in light of Putin not backing down on his claims that the Ukrainian invasion was justified; the start by Putin of a war in Europe is now not as fanciful as it first seems

Putin is preparing to start another war  in Europe.

UPDATE: 18 August 2025: GMT 08:21

True to form, it now emerges that,

"Donald Trump has told Volodymyr Zelensky that he can “almost immediately” end Russia’s war on Ukraine if

  • he abandons his Nato ambitions
  • and agrees not to reclaim Crimea.

The US president made the demands when he took to his Truth Social platform with a preview of the message he will deliver his Ukrainian counterpart at their high-stakes meeting in Washington on Monday." (The Telegraph: 18 August 2025) (my emphasis)

This is precisely what Putin wants, and what he left with in his political bag when he flew back to the Kremlin after his meeting with Trump on 15 August 2025 in Alaska.

The Putin-Trump 'bromance', which most pundits thought had fallen on rocky ground, now emerges as a 'near passionate' flame once again re-ignited.

This was the crux of the the Trump offer to Putin, relayed to him by Witkoff in his dash to the Kremlin on August 6, 2025

Times of India: 17 August 2025: YouTube

Let us once again recall that,

"…..[Witkoff]  was tasked with negotiating an end to the Russia-Ukraine War, and he met with Russian Pres. Vladimir Putin on several occasions. Witkoff’s proposed peace plans have featured several Russian demands, including the ownership of five regions in Ukraine. That point was rejected by Ukraine."
(Britannica)

So what, really, was the point of that Trump-Putin meeting in Alaska, except for Trump to re-introduce Putin onto the international political stage

The illusion that it was all about 'peace', emblazoned behind their so-called 'press conference' after their meeting, now becomes, in retrospect, evident of the "Putin-Trump sham" for all to see.

So, in light of the upcoming meeting to-day (18 August 2025) between Zelensky and Trump, including leaders of the UK and the EU what, really, is this meeting all about?

As Kevin Liptak (left) reports,

"On the eve of highly consequential talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and a large delegation of European leaders, President Donald Trump on Sunday previewed the message he’ll deliver to his White House visitors: Zelensky must agree to some of Russia’s conditions for the war in Ukraine to end."
(CNN: 18 August 2025) (my emphasis)

As I wrote in my blog entry of 11 August 2025

"Whither now the UK and the EU?

takes on an urgency for the UK and the EU, whose decisions and actions regarding Putin's war with Ukraine will either lead to a JUST PEACE for Ukraine on Friday, or precipitate the start of a possible war between Putin, the UK, and NATO members of the EU." (blog entry : 11 August 2025)

Wednesday, 13 August 2025

Putin is, yet again, playing Trump.

There is an 'elephant in the room' in UK and EU discussions about the upcoming Trump-Putin meeting.

Indeed, one could say that political discussions reverberating around the world concerning this meeting likewise have an 'elephant in the room'.

Gergana Krastevan (left) has identified this 'elephant in the room' that overshadows the political discussions reverberating around the world concerning the upcoming Trump-Putin meeting..

As she writes in Metro,

"Forget geopolitics or alliances. In the looming negotiations between the US and Russia on Alaskan soil, Donald Trump appears to be backing only one side – his own.
…
‘He has engaged in this diplomacy not because he believes it is in the US interest, but to get the Nobel Peace Prize or to aggrandize himself… or to distract from [his connection to] the Jeffrey Epstein case.

‘This is the way in which he disorderly makes foreign policy.’"
(Metro on MSN: 12 August 2025) (my emphasis)

Konstantin Samoilov (right: cf. also video below) is of the opinion that,

"This meeting in Alaska doesn't make any sense because it wasn't expected by anyone, including myself."

He goes on to point out that,

"The biggest problem of this negotiations is the lack of any kind of guarantee that Russia will not attack Ukraine again" (ibid Konstantin Samoilov)

He also points out that,

"Russia has given many promises many times. Back in 1994 Russia promised to not ever invade Ukraine or take Ukrainian land in return for Ukraine giving up the 'nuclear weapons'. That agreement is called the' 'Budapest Memorandum'." (ibid Konstantin Samoilov)

Konstantin Samoilov : Inside Russia : 12 August 2025: YouTube

Yet, "Russia violated the Budapest memorandum in 2014 with its annexation of Ukraine's Crimea" (Wikipedia)

European leaders held talks to-day with Ukraine's Zelensky ahead of a Trump-Putin summit on Friday.

After this meeting,

"Merz [said] Europeans are doing everything they can to "help set the agenda" for the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Volodymyr Putin in Alaska.

"In Alaska, security interests of Europe and Ukraine must be protected," Merz [told] the news conference, a topic he says was discussed with Trump."
(BBC News: 13 August 2025) (my emphasis)

James WaterhouseBBC News: 13 August 2025

Furthermore, recall that,

But unfortunately for BOTH Trump and Vance, Ukraine's President, Volodomyr Zelensky (left), as reported by France 24,

"Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed Saturday to reject any peace plan that involves ceding land to Russia just hours after Washington and Moscow announced a summit aimed at ending the war. US President Donald Trump said on Friday that he would meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska to discuss a possible peace deal." (France 24:  09 August 2025) (my emphasis) (cf. also:blog entry: 11 August 2025)

Both Gergana Krastevan's  reading of the proposed Trump-Putin meeting viz. that it is :-

  • 'not because he [Trump] believes it is in the US interest, but to get the Nobel Peace Prize or to aggrandize himself' ,
  • and Konstantin Samoilov's puzzlement that, "This meeting in Alaska doesn't make any sense because it wasn't expected by anyone, including myself.",
remains enigmatic about this Trump-Putin meeting.

Is this proposed Trump-Putin meeting yet another Putin ploy to try to realize his demented Novorossiya dreams?

Is Putin, yet again, playing Trump?

UPDATE: 13 August 2025: GMT: 19:34

In an interview just 1 hour ago on Times Radio, Cormac Smith (left), former British diplomat to Ukraine, outlines just howTrump,  disorderly makes foreign policy (cf. Gergana Krastevan) 'on the hoof' by, for instance, blaming Zelensky for starting the war in Ukraine, a blame which simply flies in the face of historical truth since Putin's invasion of, and annexation of Crimea into the Russian Federation, by Putin in 2014.

As he says,

"Did I say something about Donald Trump's press conference yesterday (12 August 2025)

It was absolutely bizarre. It was like being in a parallel universe. He clearly blamed President Zelensky for starting the war saying that he had spent three and a half years doing nothing.

He disregarded and disrespected the Ukrainian constitution by saying that, "Zelensky using this as an objection to trading land ... well he didn't have a problem with going to going to war, and a war that killed tens of thousands of people ...

Let's be very very clear, if anyone doesn't know,

  •  it was Russia who started this war, an illegal invasion,
  • it was Russia who wiped entire Ukranian cities off the map,
  • and has murdered tens of thousands of Ukrainian civilians(Times Radio: 13 August 2025; YouTube)

Times Radio: 13 August 2025; YouTube

Towards the end of his interview, Cormac Smith also raises the issue of how the UK and the EU are now going to respond to Trump's 'bizarre' mindset about the war in Ukraine when he has a meeting with Putin this coming Friday.
